Pet Expert Darlene Arden and The Marcia Polimer Abrams Fund
Darlene has written hundreds of articles and columns for all of the major dog and cat publications, as well as newspapers and general interest publications.
A long-time member of Dog Writers’ Association of America, Inc., and former director of the Cat Writers’ Association and a member of Boston Authors, Darlene is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Maxwell Award, the Muse Medallion, and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals/American Humane Education Society’s Media Award for veterinary writing and animal welfare.
She also writes celebrity profiles and travel features, is a frequent guest on radio and television, and she produces and hosts her own cable television show, “Creatively Speaking".
She is a Learning Facilitator at Kutztown University in their Dog Training and Management Program.
And, Darlene travels to many places as a popular and much acclaimed speaker.
And, I'm sure you will agree that one of her most wonderful accomplishments is her founding the Marcia Polimer Abrams Fund for Canine Behavior Studies at the American Kennel Club's Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF) created in honor of her mother. It is a donor advised fund established to benefit studies focusing on unlocking the mysteries of canine behavior.
Darlene Arden's writing focus has been on helping dog owners in identifying and eliminating unwanted behaviors in their pets. The author of "Small Dogs, Big Hearts," and the behavior book "Rover, Get Off Her Leg," notes that the fund will benefit all dogs, whether purebred or of mixed heritage and will lead to future behavior studies as identified through the Canine Health Foundation grants review process.
It is thought that more dogs die as a result of behavior problems than any one disease since behavior problems are so often responsible for dogs losing their homes and ending up in shelters or breed rescue. Most of what AKC/CHF funds helps people as well as animals so this is a real win/win.
Darlene is a wonderful person with many talents. I am very happy that she has joined the team of the "Lifestyles of Celebrity Pets" web series. We call her our pet expert consultant for the show, but more importantly I also call her a friend.
So publicly on the internet Darlene Arden, I thank you for being a part of the web series and helping us to bring accurate information to the viewers!
There is so much information "out there" and our goal is to provide you with what's correct.
Therefore, viewers of the web series and readers of the blog, be sure that you check out training methods before using them on your four legged friends. Not all methods are the right methods and Darlene will make sure that what we show you will be accurate and safe for both the pets and people.
